Millions of women face a frustrating reality in uterine health: choose between invasive surgery or hormonal treatments that affect the entire body. Womed is a medtech company on a mission to transform the €28B+ uterine health market. Powered by our proprietary polymer technology, we develop intrauterine therapies that work locally to treat infertility (with our FDA-approved, first-in-class Womed Leaf device), abnormal bleeding from fibroids (with our clinical-ready drug delivery Eynia system), and endometriosis. Effective treatments that respect the body — not work against it

First product is approved and commercialized, validating the platform technology and derisking the company

Second asset is leveraging patented drug delivery technology and generic compound known for its efficacy with confirmatory preclincal data in >3B€ market

The team is composed of very experienced entrepreneurs, women's health experts, medical doctors and industry senior executives.

WOMED is transforming uterine care with intrauterine therapies based on a proprietary, patented biomaterial to offer women a new safe and effective choice over invasive surgery or systemic hormones with heavy side effects.

Women’s dilemma in choosing uterine care

Uterine conditions such as adhesions, fibroids, acute bleeding and endometriosis have a tremendous impact on women’s lives, and yet are poorly served by current options. Women have to choose between options that are  either invasive, systemic, or ineffective.

Despite a €28B global market, progress in uterine health has been limited, but we have been carefully listening to women’s asks and it is Womed’ conviction that the market is ripe for meaningful innovations.

Womed’s vision for intrauterine therapies and strategy to build a category-leading business

Womed, which stems from research conducted at Pr Garric’s biopolymer lab in CNRS at the University of Montpellier, France, has a mission to transform uterine healthcare by making its polymer invention available to millions of women around the world.

The Womed business is being built on four pillars:

  1. Our foundational technology platform, a novel biomaterial designed for intrauterine use: our proprietary tri-block PLA-PEO-PLA polymer platform is biocompatible at uterus pH, has tuneable degradability and the ability to carry active or non active ingredients. It is the key component common to all Womed’s products. It is protected through 21 patents in 3 families which last until 2041. The polymer has already been tested in clinical trials and is FDA approved for its first application, Womed Leaf.
  2. Our product portfolio, with a TAM of €7B and peak sales of €1.3B

Womed Leaf® – Infertility:  Womed Leaf is a medical device for the prevention of intrauterine adhesions (the primary mechanical cause of female infertility) that was proven effective in a 160 patient randomized clinical study. It has received CE Mark in Europe and PMA approval by the US FDA where it is a first-in-class for the treatment of severe and moderate IUA.  Leaf was commercially launched in 2025 in the EU and will soon be launched in the US with Karl Storz as a distribution partner.

Womed Eynia™ – Heavy Menstrual Bleeding: Eynia is a drug-device combination product and the first medical treatment for uterine fibroids, formulated with a generic progesterone receptor modulator proven for its efficacy that is delivered locally with our patented polymer. In vivo PK data confirm a controlled release profile over the treatment duration without systemic exposure, the GLP-tox study is complete and the phase 2 POC clinical trial is scheduled next.

Womed Hemostasis – Acute uterine bleeding: medical device to avoid emergency transfusion. Preclinical stage
Womed ReLeaf™ – Endometriosis pain: drug-device combination product that releases an anti-inflammatory drug inside the cavity. Formulation stage.

  3. A prove and capital efficient business model: the go-to-market strategy is based on out-licensing advanced products to pharma/medtech partners, allowing further financing of pipeline development
  4. A highly differentiated positioning: Womed leads the emerging category of intrauterine therapies which provides a unique market differentiation position while answering the ask from women in the € 28B global market.

LEK has conducted a strategic analysis of Womed’s first two assets and concluded that they have the potential to become leaders in their respective indications:

The team is led by a serial entrepreneurs with IPO experience

Womed has a seasoned leadership team: in addition to the three cofounders — Gonzague Issenmann, serial healthtech entrepreneur, Prof Xavier Garric, head of biopolymer university lab, and Dr Stephanie Huberlant, ObGyn and head of ART center — the company is backed by world-class advisory board — with women’s health pioneer Dr Andre Ulmann, inventor of the morning-after pill — and supported by key international opinion leaders in gynecology.
The operational team has around 20 FTEs, with around 10 employees and 10 consultants and four out of five team members are women. Overall the team has complementary skills in drug and medical devices development execution, clinical trial operations and marketing.

Backed by €5 million already secured from existing shareholders, Womed offers a unique investment opportunity in women’s health

Women’s health innovation is scarce and has lately been focused primarily on digital solutions. Participating in Womed’s current round allows to invest in tangible healthcare solutions that will materially improve women’s lives.  By 2028, Womed will be at a significant value inflection point and in a good position to attract partners and buyers.

In Capital Cell's own words

Womed is transforming women’s health by addressing major uterine conditions. While traditional treatments for conditions such as adhesions, fibroids, and endometriosis often rely on invasive surgery or systemic hormones with significant side effects, Womed offers a differentiated approach through a proprietary, biodegradable polymer platform specifically designed for intrauterine use. This novel biomaterial is highly versatile, allowing for precise control over its physical and chemical properties to suit diverse clinical needs—from providing a temporary mechanical barrier (eliminating follow up removals) to serving as a vehicle for localized drug delivery.

The company’s lead product, Womed Leaf, is a highly de-risked asset that functions as a physical barrier. It is the first intrauterine adhesion barrier film to receive both FDA Premarket Approval (PMA) and CE marking, supported by randomized clinical data demonstrating a significant reduction in post-surgical adhesions – the primary mechanical cause of female infertility. Womed is leveraging the platform’s delivery capabilities across its broader clinical pipeline, which includes targeted treatments for uterine fibroids, acute uterine bleeding, and endometriosis-related pain. Its second asset, Eynia, is a Phase II-ready treatment for uterine fibroids that leverages controlled intrauterine drug release. This approach effectively eliminates systemic toxicity, maintains near-zero drug concentrations in the bloodstream, and delivers a superior safety profile for patients.

Womed operates within a massive €28B global market that has suffered from a long-standing stagnation in innovation, creating a high-pressure demand from patients and corporates for new alternatives. Supported by 21 patent families and a capital-efficient licensing model, this round will fund two major milestones for the company, the Eynia Phase II trial, unlocking the uterine fibroid market and the global launch of Leaf, positioning the company for a high-value exit.

Main risks

Womed has de-risked its core technology with FDA and CE approvals for its first product, but its primary challenge is now validating its drug-delivery pipeline in human trials. Success depends on proving its platform can deliver localized treatment, with good efficacy and minimal side effects to humans, securing global reimbursement, and establishing strategic partnerships to fund and scale its expanding portfolio.
